About Us

Welcome to Australian Guitar Making School.

Build your own high performance guitar using modern or traditional designs and materials. The students have a choice between traditional designs such as X brace and fan bracing or more modern designs such as lattice, radial or falcate bracing with double tops using nomax centers. I also studied early instruments and welcome students wanting to build a baroque - 19th century guitar or lute.

When the instruments are nearly complete we measure the resonant frequency of the instrument using a visual analiser and then tune the differant parts of the instrument if required.

We have built many successful classical, flamenco, and steel string guitars varying in shape and size. We have also built some 19th century guitars, Jazz archtop guitars, bass guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, violins and harps.

About the Instrument maker

Strato Anagnostis studied classical guitar at the Tasmanian Conservatorium 1979-80. He then trained with harpsichord maker Bill Bright in NSW where he helped build the Opera house harpshichord. He also trained in England with lute and baroque guitar make Rob Eyland. In 1984 Strato received a grant from Arts Tasmania to travel to Europe and study early guitars in some of the musical instrument museums. This included Stradivarius's guitar in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford England.

Strato has built early guitars, classical guitars and bouzoukis for customers in Australia and Overseas and helped over 140 students build guitars between 2007-2011.
